Shire Hall Museum has a special visitor this spring. Arriving on the 16th March, ‘The Tiger the Came to Tea’ exhibition celebrates the centenary of the birth of one of Britain’s best known children’s author-illustrators, Judith Kerr.

The exhibition gives visitors a chance to meet with our very own Tiger and explore Sophie’s kitchen. Our ‘Reading Corner’ is a paw-fect place to re-immerse yourself in the story of ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’, along with craft activities and an interactive Tiger trial throughout the museum.

Judith Kerr’s tigerific book began as a bedtime story for her own children in 1968 and now celebrates its 55th anniversary, having sold over five million copies worldwide and been translated into 11 different languages!

In collaboration with Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books, this exhibition brings together re-creations of iconic illustrations by Kerr, bringing the stories on the page to life. Accompanied by artwork, illustrators notes, and sketches, ‘the Tiger Who Came to Tea’ something for everyone!

Alongside this exhibition, Shire Hall will be hosting ‘Tea with the Tiger’ on 22nd-23rd April. Visitors will get the chance to enjoy a selection of tea-time treats in the company of our friendly tiger. (Booking for this event is essential and can be found on our website).

The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ will be saying ‘Goodbye!’ on the 20th May, so don’t miss your chance to come and explore all that the Tiger has to offer at Shire Hall Museum!
