Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum is delighted to welcome visitors back from Monday 17th May.
Abbie King, Director of Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum, said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to open our doors once again and welcome visitors back to Shire Hall. The last year has been extremely challenging for museums and cultural organisations across the country. So it’s brilliant that we can reopen and start sharing our stories again. We are so grateful for the continued support we’ve received from our local community. We’re looking forward to welcoming you all back to Shire Hall very soon.”
Shire Hall has an exciting schedule of events planned, starting with an invasion of Pirates at half-term. Take part in our treasure hunt around the museum and enjoy breakfast with a pirate.
Exhibitions
Later in the summer, we will be partnering with Weymouth Museum to host an exhibition on Georgian Dorset, with selected artworks from the Bussell collection.
Shire Hall welcomes back renowned artist Jason Wilsher-Mills for a ground-breaking exhibition, exploring what it is to be disabled at this moment in time. The exhibition will share stories from the disabled community through art and technology.

Learning
With the museum reopening, we are also taking bookings for our award-winning learning visits for schools. Delivered by our engaging Learning team, the schools programme encourages the development of critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills through unique and engaging sessions that span history and cross the curriculum.
Café and Shop
As well as reopening the museum, we are delighted to welcome back visitors to our café and shop. Shire Hall café will be launching a new menu for the reopening. The menu will include a delicious selection of fresh, locally-produced food and the return of Shire Hall’s Breakfast Club.
We hope to see you at Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum very soon!
